Hi Guys,
I have an installer that we are using on our machines internally and externally running Windows XP Home, Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 64-bit. They all work fine, but I have a remote employee who runs Vista 32-bit (ugh!) and for him, the installer always fails. I have attached a screen shot.
Any idea what could be causing this? Could this be some whacky UAC thing on Vista? I don't have these problems on Windows 7, and our program does not require any special admin rights at all so it can install and run as a normal user.

Re: InstallAware CRASH on Vista 32-bit?
Please check to see if this post doesn't help:
http://forums.installaware.com/viewtopi ... ess#p20630
If not, it would be helpful to know:
- InstallAware version being used.
- Attach a log of the executable; have user run:
setupname.exe /l=C:\log.txt
- And knowing whether UAC is enabled would help.

Re: InstallAware CRASH on Vista 32-bit?
The post you referenced does not appear to be related, as we are not doing a reboot (it is not necessary).
I am hoping to remote into the problem computer so I can test it out, and I will try the logging thing.

Could you post your script? If you're not comfortable attaching it here, you can send it to [email protected]

Re: InstallAware CRASH on Vista 32-bit?
I am unable to get into the users machine. I guess 'Remote Assistance' does not work so flash! Grrr.
Anyway, the install script is pretty simple, so I am happy to post it here. Just a basic .Net install. The only thing I did above and beyond a simple setup is to add my own dependency on the 'Slim DX' runtime which we are using for our audio support (long story). But the install already got past installing that dependency correctly as it failed installing the main executable program.

Re: InstallAware CRASH on Vista 32-bit?
One thing that comes to mind without considering UAC is the possibility that this user is running AntiVirus that's deleting the file?
Your project wants checkslimdx-f10.mia.
Having the project usually helps more, but it might be easier to post the exe so I can try to run in in Vista myself. If it fails, we can look further into it.

I have emailed a link to an FTP site to download the files to [email protected].

Re: InstallAware CRASH on Vista 32-bit?
I'm leaning toward AntiVirus involvement for now.
Can you try install again with AV turned off (if applicable)?
If you were to get another screenshot of the error, could you include the progess text as well, to see where the error is appearing?
Also, I would highly recommend running setup in logging mode:
SNAP.exe /l=C:\log.txt
Here are two trials I performed today (just running the provided installer from FTP):
Using:
Windows Vista
-UAC +SP2 7
Installing IE8...
IE8 installed, rebooted...
Installing .Net 4... Installed
Also installs other dependency
SNAP Merchant install begins...
Successfully complete IA Wizard for SNAP.
~~~
Using:
Windows Vista
+UAC +SP2 7
Got prompt:
"You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log on as administrator and then retry this installation."
followed by:
"SlimDX Runtime (Feb 2010) could not be installed Please try to manually install SlimDX Runtime (Feb 2010).
SNAP Merchant Setup cannot continue."
Retry:
right-click on setup.exe, choose Run As Administrator.
Install succeeds this time.
Re: InstallAware CRASH on Vista 32-bit?
I will have him run it in logging mode first with AV on, and then try it again with it off. He is running Trend Micro Anti-Virus.
