Problem with Regasm in installers (.NET 4.0 ?)
I have 2 build servers - both with InstallAware 10.10 on them.
One of the server recently (after upgrading from 10.0 to 10.10) began to produce Installers where the RegAsm command is called from .NETV4 (C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319) even if the destination machine does not have .NET 4 installed. ??!
I have verified that this is not something related to the InstallAware project file - I can build the exact same project on another computer and the produced installer doesn't require .NET 4 to install assemblies. So it must be something machine related - which I realize makes it harder to reproduce and fix.
I made a very small test example - which fails when built from 1 computer and works fine when built from another. I have attached the screenshot of the error.
This is extremely annoying - any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Christian

Dear Christian.Holm,
Unfortunately, several users have recently experienced this - I tried to reproduce this on many different machines and was unsuccessful.
Please try to reinstall InstallAware as this fixed the problem for some users.

Re: Problem with Regasm in installers (.NET 4.0 ?)
Thanks for your reply.
I was afraid/dreading this...
I did:
1. Uninstall IA 10.10
2. Reboot
3. Download IA 10.10 and generated & downloaded my licenseregistration
4. Installed IA 10.10 and the license
5. The IA still produces installers that expect .NET4 to be installed :-/ (make it stop)
I hope you will make it a priority to help us "unfortunate" out - even if it is hard/difficult to reproduce in your end. If I can help in testing etc. let me know.
Regards
Christian

Dear Christian.Holm,
It is definitely my priority to help you solve this problem.
Is the working server running 10.0? Are you sure that you regenerated your license and that it is compatible with 10.10?

Dear Christian.Holm,
Could you point me to any more differences between the two machines? I believe that that is where the problem lies.

Re: Problem with Regasm in installers (.NET 4.0 ?)
Both are running Windows 7 Enterprise (SP1), have the same compilers (Visual Studio 2010, Delphi XE) installed.
Basically they are the same - Only difference I can think of is that one of them has had the IA installed (upgraded and then reinstalled) recently and the other one has not been touched since 3'rd of january.
Everything has been running fine on *both* computers up until a week ago - where I upgraded IA from 10 to 10.10... on one of them.
So I would have to be very hard pressed to point at a difference between the machines - I can't see it.
Regards
Christian

Dear Christian,
Are the two machines using the exact same license?
Were they installed from the same binary?

Re: Problem with Regasm in installers (.NET 4.0 ?)
The Machine still working (phew) :
- InstallAware_10_With_Runtimes.exe downloaded 03-01-2011, license generated and downloaded around that time.
The Machine not working (my primary build server)
- InstallAware_10_With_Runtimes.exe downloaded 08-03-2011, license generated and downloaded 08-03-2011
So the answer is - no, the 2 machines does not use the same "license exe" - but the distribution should be the same I guess?

Re: Problem with Regasm in installers (.NET 4.0 ?)
Dear Christian,
The licenses should definitely be the same - do you by any change have your old license available?
If not, perhaps try installing the newer license on a 3rd machine to see if this is indeed a license problem?
Again, I apologize for this. We are looking at this on our end as well.

Re: Problem with Regasm in installers (.NET 4.0 ?)
I don't have the old license - unfortunately (I would have been nice)
I have today installed IA 10.10 with fresh generated and downloaded everything on a third computer.
Installers build on this computer exhibits same same problems - insisting on using .NET 4 for regasm.
I don't know where that leaves us - I would really like to have my primary build server up and running again....

Do you have .NET 4 installed on the machine on which this is working?

Furthermore, I removed .NET 4 from my machine and still did not encounter this.

Re: Problem with Regasm in installers (.NET 4.0 ?)
On the one machine working (Installed 3'rd of january) - I have .NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 installed.
This is the same configuration as my primary build server which is NOT working (recently IA installed ).
On the 3'rd machine which I tested on today .NET 4 is not installed - and here IA produces installers that that want's to register a .NET 2.0 assembly using .NET 4.0 even if it's not available on the destination computer.
The computer I installed on today is a standard configuration straight from our IT department... If I can't make IA work on that, I have a serious problem! This worries me.
