How to: Control msi setup

Post by leos58 »

Hi,
I've a problem with an installaware project.
I've the necessity to run an msi setup within a setup prerequisites into installaware project and I tried to use the (Un)Install MSI Setup command but I don't have the possibilities to stop the installaware setup until the msi setup is complete. (this because in the (Un)Install MSI Setup command there isn't a flag "Wait for program to finish" like Run Program command).
I searched for a solution but I didn't found it.
Some help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
Bye

Hi,

That is actually not true - not only that the plugin waits for the program to finish, it also shows its progress within the InstallAware setup if a progress dialog is displayed - check out the following:

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
My problem is different; I try to explain it.
I created an indipendent and invisible installaware project that install .net framework 4 and switch automatically to x86 or x64 setup based on operating system.
Then I created an exe with this project and after I created an msi with this file using pgplwiz.exe tool.
In another installaware project that install a program, in the prerequisites setup I checked if the .net framework 4 is installed and then if not installed I launched the "(Un)Install MSI Setup command" with this parameter:
- ADDLOCAL=1
- MSI FILE: the msi file that I created before.
- VARIABLE FOR RESULT
Next I controlled this variable and got some message in order to result.
If I launch this setup I see that the setup immediately return SUCCESS in variable for result and next show the .net framework setup.
This is my problem: in this case the setup don't stop until the .net framework setup is finished but It continue like an asynchronous mode but if I use the Run Program Command (in this case I use an exe) and set the "Wait for program to finish", the setup stop until the .net framework is complete, and then return the variable of the result and if is all OK continue the setup.
I hope that you have understand my problem and so find a solution.
Thank very much.Bye.

I am still not really sure what you mean, but you can always use the Run Program command and tick "Wait for Program to Finish" instead of using (Un)Install MSI Setup.
