Dear Nofar,
Access to the registry is done differently on 64 and 32 bit machines and.
Which OS are you running, and have you used the Set 64 Bit Mode command?

Could you please paste here the registry path you are trying to change the permissions for? (you can also just paste the actual command)

Hi,
Here is an example of a working script that writes to the registry and sets its permissions on a 64 bit machine:
Code: Select all
~InstallAware Clipboard Data~
~Set Access Control~
~{C60FAEA1-17B1-4F6A-BD42-4468C8F78CE8}~
~HKLM\SOFTWARE\RegTest~
~FALSE~
~FALSE~
~TRUE~
~FALSE~
~CREATOR OWNER~
~TRUE~
~TRUE~
~TRUE~
~FALSE~
~FALSE~
~FALSE~
~FALSE~
~TRUE~
~FALSE~
~FALSE~
~Write Registry~
~{4A703C94-218E-4315-8379-576721958330}~
~0~
~2~
~SOFTWARE\RegTest~
~TestValue~
~TestData~
~TRUE~
~FALSE~
~Set 64 Bit Mode~
~{8BBAEE51-19DB-4224-81D2-446E780E1127}~
~TRUE~
~FALSE~
~FALSE~
~Set Variable~
~{333F9581-ADDE-47BA-AE45-6B2DC3CBD927}~
~NATIVE_ENGINE$MYAH$MYAH$FALSE~
~TRUE~
Remember:
1) make sure you are on the correct 64 bit mode
2) InstallAware sets special permissions - so make sure you do not confuse that for no permissions at all

You can, this just illustrates a case in which the key hasn't been created. Simply remove the Write Registry command form my script then!

This is just how MSIcode looks when its copied - copy the script I attach, and paste it directly in your MSIcode script and it will turn into normal MSIcode commands.

ah ok i didn't know that i can add the script.
i added it to my MSIcode but it's still doesn't work.
why did you used the authenticatd users?
i want to give permissions to specific user .
does it matter where i'm adding the script in the MSICode?
thanks

Hi,
This is just an example, so no specific reason why I chose that.
Where in the MSIcode did you place the code? Yes, it does matter where it is.

Are you sure that the registry keys you are trying to set the access control for exist?
Could you attach a screenshot of the permissions dialog of the key you are trying to change?
