This product cannot be installed on this operative system

Post by mhammady »

Hi, We successfully compiled our setup, and when we tried to test it on XP PC (SP3) we get the following message "This product cannot be installed on this operative system".

in [Application requirements], We didn't select any requirement except to have "administrator privileges", and in [Summary and UAC], we set the "Requested Elevation Level" to "Always Elevate".

Could you please advise what could be wrong?

PS: We use Installaware RAD Studio Edition

Thx

Dear User,

I have the suspect that in your install script, there is something that check for a minimum required OS.

Can you check it?

Let me know.

Dear User,

for what you reported everything seems fine, but I still suspect that of course there is somenthing in your script causing this issue.

could you plese verify carefully what exactly causes this executing a debug of your installation?

Dear User,

Could you send me your project and I will have a look as soon as I can?

Regarding Debug, please see "Debugging" within IA Help docs - Press F1 from IA IDE.

Dear User,

your setup show you that warning because in your setup you have the following code that it is not correct:

Set Variable CHECKOS to FALSE
Get System Setting Windows 95 into CHECKOS_WIN95
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WIN95
Get System Setting Windows 98 into CHECKOS_WIN98
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WIN98
Get System Setting Windows ME into CHECKOS_WINME
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WINME
Get System Setting Windows NT4 into CHECKOS_WINNT4
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WINNT4
Get System Setting Windows 2003 into CHECKOS_WIN2003
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WIN2003
Get System Setting Windows 2000 into CHECKOS_WIN2000
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WIN2000
Get System Setting Windows XP into CHECKOS_WINXP
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WINXP
Get System Setting Windows Vista into CHECKOS_WINVISTA
CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WINVISTA
if Variable CHECKOS not Equals TRUE
MessageBox: $TITLE$ Setup Error, This product cannot be installed on this operative system.
Terminate Installation
end

First the variables "CHECKOS_WIN95,CHECKOS_WIN98 and so on " are never defined and also, you are using variables without dereferencing them,

you use (wrong)> CHECKOS = CHECKOS or CHECKOS_WIN95
must be (correct)> CHECKOS = $CHECKOS$ or $CHECKOS_WIN95$

Please have a look to InstallAware helps docs for "Using Variables" (press F1in IA IDE)

By the way, even if you correct those your code wil not work.
For example, if you want to test for a minimum required OS why do you not use?

Get System Setting Windows XP into CHECKSYSTEM
if Variable CHECKSYSTEM not Equals TRUE
MessageBox: $TITLE$ Setup Error, This product requires at least Windows XP.$NEWLINE$$NEWLINE$Setup cannot continue.
Terminate Installation
end

I suggest to you to start with a simple templete test project first as "Win32 Template", in order to understand how setup script flow works.

Thank you for your reply.
I did looked into the file, and i found the code you mentioned. As a matter of fact i didn't write any of these codes, and when i removed it from the file <title>.mia.txt and opened the project again, the IA wrote the same lines again after i saved the project.

Is this a bug in IA?

I'm using IA RAD studio Edition (Build Moooya.8.22.11)

Kindly advise what i shall do?

Thx

Update: I did start a new project, and it worked fine... There must be something with IS import engine that causes this problem
