My installer are running into runtime errors with access violation after upgrading IA from X15 to either X16 or X17. It seems to do something with Program Data temp files? I had upgraded to X15 to X16 in one of the build boxes few months back and started running intermittently into this error, but wasn't sure if it was IA related or not, but last week I upgraded 2 other build boxes and sure enough all the installers that were running on those boxes started running into these runtime errors. Then I rolled back the build box to previous snapshot, and the runtime errors for installer built after X15 roll back started working fine. Any idea how to resolve this and be able to upgrade to X17?
Here's the screenshot of error.
Thanks
Mallika

Would love to hear what happens to the project when you compile and run it under InstallAware Multi Platform?

Do I need license for it? Multi platform I mean.

Not unless you wanted to use it in production, so for the purposes of our test here, no you wouldn't be needing a license at all and can make do with the fully unrestricted, unlimited, free trial.

Re: Runtime Error: Access violation after upgrading to IA X16 / X17 from IA X15
I don't believe I can test this without upgrading again to X17 and that will mean going back to bad state. Is there a way to debug this without upgrading?
Re: Runtime Error: Access violation after upgrading to IA X16 / X17 from IA X15
Just to clarify, Multi Platform would not interfere with your X-series installation - as it is a fully independent installation. Would be a great data point to have.
You would almost certainly need to provide substantially more information to identify and resolve your issue, of course. If I were you, I would try to isolate the offending line number (and maybe its close neighbors) to see if one of them in particular trips the new version as you have suggested.
I hope some of these ideas are helpful for you. Please understand that shallow reports on their own hardly ever, if at all, lead to meaningful resolutions.

Re: Runtime Error: Access violation after upgrading to IA X16 / X17 from IA X15
That's the thing. It doesn't even fail consistently in the same place. Sometimes it fails with no line number either. Like below attached screenshot. And the line it refers to in previous screenshot - is "Start installation" label. I myself am not sure where / what exactly is the problem. All I know is it started happening after upgrading to X16 / X 17. All the builds that happen on build boxes that have X15 has no such issues.

Re: Runtime Error: Access violation after upgrading to IA X16 / X17 from IA X15
Sounds like something was corrupted in your project to begin with, and the upgrades are exposing this (extremely unlikely the upgrades themselves would break something, as we have legendary backwards compatibility).
As you are unable to provide further information and/or to rebuild the projects using InstallAware Multi Platform, I would recommend you contact official support - they would be glad to take this further on the basis of your entitlement.
Hope you get to the bottom of this soon!

So, to clarify I won't be able to get help without paying for support. Is that correct?

I have no way of seeing what is included in your plan.
Please contact official support as they would guide you accordingly.
