Can I Get a Users Guide

Postby Superfreak3 » Tue Feb 06, 2007 9:16 am

We are currently using Wise for Windows Installer and are contemplating a switch to Install Aware.

Is there a User's Guide available for download or is there one included in the Evalutaion?

I'm also wondering how painful a switch this will be. Is there any type of conversion for Wise install templates (.wsi) or do the projects need to be rebuilt?

Just Wondering!!

Is the Reviewers Guide what I'm looking for?

Also, is he only difference between the Studio and Studio Admin versions the ability to imort .msi's and .msm's (basically)? Would/could this be the answer to my Wise conversion question? How would existing Custom Action from my 'Wise world' be imported/resolved in Admin Studio?

Just severl more questions.

Thanks in advance for any info!!

Yep, the reviewer's guide would be a good start; also read the Extreme Installers article, its a nice walkthrough.

You're a lot better of re-writing your custom actions in MSIcode. You will see that what took, say 10 lines of C++ code, will most often be 1-2 lines of MSIcode in your new script (the built-in functions help with that). You can also call arbitrary DLL functions and run EXE files from MSIcode, so that should help with the migration.

Correct about Admin Studio - and, there is also the redistributable automation interface (if you don't immediately recognize what that is, chances are you dont need it ;)).
