.exe -> .msi, something missing :(

Post by simondk »

Hello,

i just made an installer, and tested it as a single .exe, which worked very fine, i have an option with radio buttons were the user selects if the application is to be used for everyone or only the single user.
I preselect everyone, and it works fine in the .exe, but when converting to .msi, there is nothing preselected when i get to that dialogue. Am i missing something, or is it a bug ?

Thanks
.Simon

How are you converting to MSI - Group Policy Wizard?

The Group Policy Wizard is really only intended for creating msi's for use with Group Policy Deployment systems; these are not interactive.

I'll speak to the Dev team and see what I can find out for you however.

That's not true according to the InstallAware Reviewer's Guide, which states:

The Group Policy Wizard also permits customizing the command line passed to the embedded InstallAware setup, either by hard-coding a command line in the wizard itself, or by setting the public CMDLINE property of the outer MSI at deployment time on end-user systems. Therefore a single MSI file can be made available for use by both end-users and in corporate deployment scenarios using the Group Policy Wizard.
Has anything ever come of the questions posed in this thread?

Hello,
nothing came of this thread, and we have migrated to InstallShield instead.
Best regards,
Simon.

Sorry to hear we lost you, but the Group Policy Wizard can now produce MSI files which work both inside and outside Group Policy deployment.

Hi Candice,

Re.

Is this in the latest download (Version: 8.01 Last Updated: October 22, 2008)?

The ability to run the MSI outside of Group Policy Deployment is useful for us as way of testing whether the MSI is working (in fact we don't have any other way.)

Thanks,
